Most of us have dreamt about the joy of having wings…and for most of us that just isn’t going to happen. But a pair of skis is a pretty good substitute! That’s what I love about ski touring. Freedom, speed and covering ground. True, travel uphill can be hard work, but it is good exercise and the rewards are many. Each year I mix the tours up quite a bit and generally add my “new favourite tour” for the next season. Check out the Japanese Alps for my current fave.
While the tours vary in length and destination there are common elements to each. We start the trips with a light day intended to get muscles and gear into shape and also get up to speed with the necessary training which usually involves a transceiver and companion rescue review. Tours in glaciated terrain also include a refresher on glacier travel.
Custom tours can be organized upon request and if you need a suggestion as to an appropriate trip send me a note…the world is a big place and I have no end of places I want to explore!
